Thing 7

I found that there are several on the list that I use fairly often.  One of the ones that I looked at that I have never went on before was Reddit.  I liked the collection of stories but it would not be something that I could just tell my kids to use.  I found that some of the material was not appropriate.

I liked the search engine Rollyo.  I did a couple searches for some math topics and got results that contained good sites.

For fun, I looked at the BBCIPlayer.  I did not get to do a lot of exploring on it but it is definitely something of interest for me.

For my content, .doctoc contains information that is somewhat useful.  I searched a couple topics in math and was able to find some reference material for my class.

Thing 6

I really like the trading cards.  I went to a week long workshop a couple years back where each day the presenter made up a deck of cards with our pictures on them.  The presenter used the cards to arrange us in different groups.  I thought it was a great idea.  Well, I had already decided for this coming school year that I would have my kids in a variety groups within each week.   The use of trading cards would be great to use.
I also looked at an app, Magcloud photo magazine.  I thought that would be great to use in a math class.  Students could take pictures of specific geometric shapes in architecture and make comments on the photos in Flickr and then use this app to make a photo magazine.

Thing #5 Flickr

I like the site.  Many of the concepts that I talk about in my class are abstract.  If I can find photos or even videos that show the math in action then I think it will be worth the time of me searching.  I only searched one time and found the types of photos I wanted.  So that is great.
The photo that I found is of a sound wave posted by Biology Big Brother.  In my class, sound waves are an essential concept.  I found several different waves of different amplitude and width.

Thing # 3: Setting up my blog and avatar

I liked setting up the avatar.  That process was easy and the instructions were easy to follow.  When I tried to attach it to my blog, I guess I clicked the wrong link first and when I found Layout, it would not let me add the gadget.  I am not sure exactly what I did to finally get it to allow me to do it but I got to the right page to add it.  I signed back out and started from the beginning so that I now know how to do it the right way the first time.
Now I just have to remember....That's the hard part. :)

Thing #2: 7 1/2 Habits of Successful Lifelong Learners

What to I need to work on? PLAY!!!!
I get so focused on the work part that sometimes I do go back and play.

I need to work on mentoring others. It is not that I don't share with others but I don't seek out people to share our knowledge. I believe it is that I have a more introverted personality and just don't put myself out there.

Thing #2: 7 1/2 Habits of Successful Lifelong Learners

What do I do the best? Accept responsibility for my own learning. I would rather go out on the web or go through my own resources to find out how to do something. When there is something I want to learn, I give it my all. This is especially when we get new technology "toys". I don't think that there is someone else out there who can tell me the the best way for me to use something. I gather ideas from people and value their input but it comes down to me. If I don't invest the time and energy into it, then I won't get the full benefits.
